This research project aims to analyse the process of transforming knowledge from these texts, both in the context of the teaching process and its transformation in the lives of the Minangkabau people. The text selected for analysis is that which addresses the theme of fiqih, which is distinctive and pertinent to the everyday concerns of the Minangkabau people. This research is qualitative in nature and employs historical research methods. The sources were obtained through observation, interviews and a review of the relevant literature. The data analysis process was conducted interactively from the outset of the research project. The findings of this research demonstrate that manuscripts originating from the Agam region present fiqih-related topics in a distinctive manner. The Minangkabau people are a diverse group with a range of socio-cultural backgrounds. The aforementioned themes encompass prayer, funeral arrangements, Hajj procedures, ablution, fasting, zakat, sacrifice, inheritance, qishash, trade, marriage, war and hunting. In addition, several other themes that are typically feminine are also addressed, including menstruation, women's fiqih, women's emancipation, and the interpretation of earthquakes. These texts are employed in surau settings and serve to advance social rights, particularly those pertaining to Minangkabau women in the domains of fiqih and social rights. The impact of scientific transformation is not limited to the continuity of religious education; it also has ramifications for social life.
Doni Nofra Inggria Kharisma Copyright (c) 2026 Doni Nofra, Inggria Kharisma https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 2026-06-30 2026-06-30 30 1 1 22 10.37108/tabuah.v30i1.1871 DINAMIKA ISLAM DI YOGYAKARTA PRA-PASCA KEMERDEKAAN: ANALISIS HISTORIS ATAS RELASI KERATON DAN MUHAMMADIYAH https://rjfahuinib.org/index.php/tabuah/article/view/2461
This study examines the dynamics of Islamic development in Yogyakarta through a historical analysis of the relationship between the Yogyakarta Palace and Muhammadiyah during the pre- and post-independence periods. The research is grounded in the need to understand how traditional authority and modernist Islamic movements jointly shaped the religious character of Yogyakarta society. The study aims to describe the patterns of interaction between these two institutions and to identify their influence on socio-religious developments in the region. A historical research method with a qualitative approach was employed, involving archival exploration, literature review, and descriptive-analytical data interpretation. The findings indicate that in the pre-independence era, the Yogyakarta Palace and Muhammadiyah maintained a harmonious relationship through cultural adaptation and selective acceptance of religious reform. In the post-independence era, this relationship evolved into a more structural collaboration, reflected in joint contributions to education, health services, and social development. The study concludes that the interaction between the Palace and Muhammadiyah has been a crucial factor in shaping the distinctive model of Islam in Yogyakarta—modern, rational, yet firmly rooted in Javanese cultural tradition.
Aisyah Sacra Ali Nabita Syifaur Rahmah Copyright (c) 2026 Aisyah Sacra Ali, Nabita Syifaur Rahmah https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 2026-06-30 2026-06-30 30 1 23 32 10.37108/tabuah.v30i1.2461 TRADISI MAKAN BAJAMBA DI NAGARI SIALANG, KECAMATAN KAPUR IX, KABUPATEN LIMA PULUH KOTA https://rjfahuinib.org/index.php/tabuah/article/view/2440
Makan bajamba is one of the cultural heritages of the Minangkabau community that embodies the values of togetherness, equality, mutual cooperation, and religiosity. However, modernization and changing patterns of social interaction have affected the transmission of these customary values to younger generations. This study aims to examine the implementation of the makan bajamba tradition in Nagari Sialang, Kapur IX District, Lima Puluh Kota Regency, and to explore the social, religious, and cultural values embedded in the tradition as well as their relevance to contemporary society using a qualitative ethnographic approach. Data were collected through participant observation, in-depth interviews with traditional leaders, religious leaders, village government officials, and local community members, as well as documentation studies. The data were analyzed through data reduction, data display, conclusion drawing, and triangulation to ensure the credibility of the findings. The results indicate that makan bajamba is not merely a communal dining practice but also serves as a medium for transmitting customary values and Islamic teachings, strengthening social solidarity, fostering egalitarian relationships, reinforcing kinship ties, and preserving Minangkabau cultural identity across generations. The study concludes that the makan bajamba tradition remains sustainable and relevant despite ongoing social changes because the community has successfully preserved its core values while adapting its practices to contemporary conditions. Consequently, the tradition continues to contribute to the preservation of local culture and the strengthening of social cohesion within Minangkabau society.
Rido Jamallius Abrar Abrar Copyright (c) 2026 Rido Jamallius, Abrar Abrar https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 2026-06-30 2026-06-30 30 1 33 48 10.37108/tabuah.v30i1.2440 TRANSFORMASI POLA PELAYARAN DAN PERDAGANGAN VOC DI NUSANTARA PADA ABAD 16-18 M https://rjfahuinib.org/index.php/tabuah/article/view/1677
Indonesia occupies a strategic position within international shipping and trade networks due to its location along global trade routes and its abundant natural resources, particularly spices. During the 16th century, maritime and commercial activities in the Indonesian archipelago flourished through networks involving local, Asian, and European traders. This context provides a basis for analyzing the transformations that occurred following the establishment of the Vereenigde Oostindische Compagnie (VOC) in 1602. This study aims to examine the role of ships as links in trade, as well as the transformations and commodities traded by the VOC in the archipelago from the 16th to the 18th centuries. It does so by comparing conditions before and after the VOC's arrival, specifically regarding changes in shipping routes, vessel types, and traded commodities. The study employs a library research methodology, incorporating the stages of the historical method: heuristics, source criticism, interpretation, and historiography. The findings indicate that prior to the VOC's arrival, shipping and trade networks in the archipelago operated relatively openly through major ports connected to broader Asian trade networks. Following the VOC's arrival in the 17th century, significant transformations occurred, including the seizure of strategic ports, the realignment of shipping routes to serve VOC monopoly interests, the utilization of a VOC fleet supported by local vessels, and the control of key commodity trades—such as cloves, nutmeg and pepper. These transformations shifted the maritime trade structure of the archipelago from a relatively open system to one that was centralized and controlled by the VOC through monopoly policies that persisted until the 18th century.
Gunawan Bulfi Hamdi Ramadhan Putri Dahlia Copyright (c) 2026 Gunawan Bulfi, Hamdi Ramdhan, Putri Dahlia https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 2026-06-30 2026-06-30 30 1 49 56 10.37108/tabuah.v30i1.1677 PERAN IMAM MAULANA ABDUL MANAF AMIN AL-KHATIB DALAM GERAKAN PEMBAHARUAN KAUM TRADISIONAL DI BATANGKABUANG KOTA PADANG https://rjfahuinib.org/index.php/tabuah/article/view/2465
This research is motivated by the limited scholarly attention to the role of local scholars in Islamic reform movements in Minangkabau, particularly the contribution of Imam Maulana Abdul Manaf Amin al-Khatib from Batang Kabung, Padang City. Amid the tension between local Islamic traditions—such as surau, Sufi orders, and manuscript culture—and the rise of modern Islamic reform, Imam Maulana emerged as a key figure capable of bridging both worlds. This study aims to describe his biography and socio-religious background, analyze his contributions to Islamic reform, and explain the impact of his religious thought and practices on the Batang Kabung community. A descriptive qualitative method was employed, using document analysis of manuscripts, literature review, and examination of local historical sources. The findings indicate that Imam Maulana played a significant role in educational reform through the development of Madrasah Tarbiyah Islamiyah (MTI), in preserving Islamic intellectual heritage through manuscript production, and in promoting a moderate and socially responsive model of religious leadership. His ideas and practices strengthened the community’s religious identity, harmonized local customs with Islamic teachings, and enabled society to face modernity without losing its traditional roots. This study affirms that Imam Maulana represents an essential model of a local scholar functioning as an agent of Islamic reform in Minangkabau.
Rahmi Yusra Za’im Rais Zulfis Zulfis Copyright (c) 2026 Rahmi Yusra, Za’im Rais, Zulfis Zulfis https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 2026-06-30 2026-06-30 30 1 57 66 10.37108/tabuah.v30i1.2465 THE DYNAMICS OF THE DEVELOPMENT OF MINANGKABAU HISTORIOGRAPHY https://rjfahuinib.org/index.php/tabuah/article/view/2438
The historiography of Minangkabau reflects a dynamic evolution from oral traditions to contemporary decolonial scholarship. Historically, Minangkabau historiography emerged from pre-colonial traditions such as tambo, kaba, and tarombo, which functioned as moral and cosmological narratives sustaining social cohesion and identity. During the colonial era, European scholars reframed Minangkabau history within ethnographic and administrative frameworks, producing positivist and Eurocentric narratives that marginalized local epistemologies. In the national period (1950–1980s), historiography was institutionalized within Indonesian academia, adopting modern historical methods but often subordinated to nationalist ideology. The contemporary phase, however, marks a paradigm shift toward critical and decolonial approaches emphasizing local agency, microhistory, and reinterpretation of indigenous sources. This study employs a qualitative historiographical analysis using postcolonial and decolonial theoretical frameworks to trace epistemological and ideological transitions in Minangkabau historical writing. Findings reveal that epistemological shifts from oral to written, from colonial objectivity to reflective locality were shaped by power relations, academic paradigms, and cultural negotiation. Ideologically, historiography moved from adat-based cosmology, through colonial hegemony, to national integration and finally to local reclamation. The study concludes that Minangkabau historiography represents an ongoing intellectual resistance, where decolonial narratives reclaim historical agency and restore indigenous knowledge systems within modern scholarship.
Ahmad Fadil Copyright (c) 2026 Ahmad Fadil https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 2026-06-30 2026-06-30 30 1 67 78 10.37108/tabuah.v30i1.2438 FUNGSI KESENIAN RONGGENG, RONGGENG NAK MUDO PINANG SARUMPUN DI NAGARI SIMPANG https://rjfahuinib.org/index.php/tabuah/article/view/1935
Ronggeng is one of the traditional performing arts that plays an important role in the socio-cultural life of the community in Pasaman Regency, West Sumatra. This study aims to analyze the functions of Ronggeng Nak Mudo Pinang Sarumpun within the social and cultural practices of the Nagari Simpang community. A qualitative approach was employed through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and documentation involving ronggeng performers and community leaders. The findings reveal that ronggeng functions not only as entertainment but also as a medium for social cohesion, cultural communication, customary ceremonies, and the transmission of local values through poetic performances (pantun). From a functionalist perspective, ronggeng contributes to maintaining social integration and reinforcing collective identity, while its historical development reflects a process of cultural acculturation that has shaped the distinctive characteristics of ronggeng in Pasaman. These findings demonstrate that the sustainability of Ronggeng Nak Mudo Pinang Sarumpun is closely related to its continuing social functions and cultural relevance within the local community.
Zalmesi Zulmar Lisna Sandora Copyright (c) 2026 Zalmesi Zulmar, Lisna Sandora https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 2026-06-30 2026-06-30 30 1 79 92 10.37108/tabuah.v30i1.1935 ANTARA PERDAGANGAN DAN PENGARUH BUDAYA: ANALISIS DAMPAK PELAYARAN INGGRIS DI BENGKULU https://rjfahuinib.org/index.php/tabuah/article/view/1766
Fajri Chaniago Copyright (c) 2026 Fajri Chaniago https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 2026-06-30 2026-06-30 30 1 93 104 10.37108/tabuah.v30i1.1766
