Abstract

The development of information technology and globalization has brought significant changes to the role of library and information science in modern society. This study aims to analyze the contribution of library and information science in supporting the realization of a sustainable global society through the enhancement of information literacy, the development of digital library services, cultural preservation, and equal access to information. This research employs a qualitative approach using a literature review method by examining various scientific journals, books, academic articles, and documents relevant to the field of library and information science. The findings indicate that libraries and information institutions play a strategic role in building knowledgeable, critical, and adaptable societies in response to the advancement of digital technology. Libraries function not only as providers of information resources but also as educational and community empowerment centers that support lifelong learning. Furthermore, the development of digital libraries, institutional repositories, and internet-based services has expanded public access to credible information without limitations of space and time. Libraries also play an important role in preserving local culture and community knowledge as part of sustainable development efforts. Through the integration of information technology and library services, library and information science can support the creation of an inclusive, innovative, and sustainable global society oriented toward improving the quality of human resources.
